Blue Passport: Let's Make It Something It's Not

If you haven't heard the BREAKING NEWS, it was announced last night that the British passports would be changing to blue from the burgundy that we have become accustomed to.

Let's get this out the way now. I don't give a flying doobie what colour the passports are, but please - PLEASE - don't make this a 'victory' for Brexit... But it appears that is too late.

Theresa May joined the Twitter trend set by the haunted pumpkin - who currently resides in what might as well be called The White(s Only) House - by tweeting some nonsense to back-up their reasoning.

"The UK passport is an expression of our independence and sovereignty - symbolising our citizenship of a proud, great nation. That's why we have announced that the iconic #bluepassport will return after we leave the European Union in 2019." - @thereas_may.

There are a couple of things in this tweet that probably need to be dissected.

Saying that the blue passport will be "an expression of our independence" is just rubbish. That statement suggest that the EU forced us, and every other member of it's Union, to have these burgundy passports.

There is no legislation or rule or law that states that everyone has to conform to the same passport. And it seems apparent that Lord Brexit himself, Nigel Farage - the man with the melting face - seems completely unaware that if we were SO DESPERATE FOR A BLUE PASSPORT, we could have had one at any point.

Croatia have a blue passport. And they're an EU member. I'll leave that there.

Also, nothing about this blue passport is making me feel proud of this great nation. It's just a damn passport.

Currently, we have a passport that allows is the freedom to travel, study, work and live in 27 countries. The blue passport will be a symbol of us losing that freedom. It's basically replacing a passport of freedom with a passport of restriction.

It is great to see that the government and leading Brexiteers have got their priorities straight. The issue with the single market seems to no closer to be sorted. The Irish border crossing still is under discussions. Even closer to home we have a disgusting amount of homeless people on the streets and an NHS and social care system that is suffering a severe financial shortage. But hey, we have blue passports now guys!

Is it taking back control? No. It's a lame attempt to show that 'progress' is being made with Brexit. It's a beautiful front, with shit all going on behind it.

But - of course - the paper that I use to wipe, The Sun, has stepped up and claimed what is quite frankly a pathetic 'victory'. It's a colour. If you cared so much, you could have had it changed before. But if it feels like it gives you an enormous sense of well-being even if it has done next to nothing to change anything - then good for you.

Fine. Change the colour. But don't give me a bullshit reason for doing it.
